Assessment Wrappers (x5)
  • The purpose of an assessment wrapper ("exam wrappers" or "cognitive wrappers") is to foster metacognitive reflection before and after assessments and/or practice assessments. These one's are especially useful when doing practice exam sections with students as it helps to develop their self-regulated learning skills towards exam success.

Research indicates that using assessment wrappers is an effective way to increase student achievement and make their engagement with practice assessments more productive. These assessment wrappers utilise the 'self-regulation cycle' such that students plan, monitor, evaluate and regulate their approach to assessments.

This teaching resource includes a selection of five editable assessment wrappers designed to foster metacognitive reflection and self-regulated learning before and after assessments. Each wrapper, a double-sided A4 printable, prompts students to plan, monitor, evaluate, and regulate their approach to exams or practice assessments. Suitable for students aged 14-18 across any subject with formal assessments, these wrappers help improve engagement with practice exams and boost achievement through structured reflection. By integrating the self-regulation cycle into exam preparation, this resource supports students in developing effective study and assessment strategies.
