Metacognition & Self-Regulated Learning

Self-Regulated Learning occurs when students plan, monitor, evaluate and regulate their own learning strategies. Metacognition is the cognitive aspect of self-regulated learning. Our aim is to help young learners think deeply about how they learn best so that they can become more effective learners and boost their overall learning power.

How We'll Help Your School

We offer a comprehensive suite of teaching resources focused on metacognition and self-regulated learning; the resources are suitable for teachers of all subjects who work with students aged 11-18. We also offer in-house and online teacher training materials.

Combined, they represent a complete whole-school solution to the challenge of nurturing metacognition & encouraging SRL.

What Are The Benefits?

It's important for schools to focus on metacognition and self-regulated learning in order to:

  • Increase attainment (Hattie, 2017; effect size 0.69)

  • Build learning autonomy and create independent learners

  • Prepare people for lifelong learning in the information age

  • Empower students to take responsibility for their own learning and personal development

Metacognition is recommended by the Education Endowment Fund (EEF) as an effective pedagogical strategy for disadvantaged students.

The efficacy of metacognitive strategies in education is evidenced by over thirty years of pedagogical research!
